The Expansive Body with Yarra Ileto

Born and raised in Australia, Yarra Ileto (@yarraileto) relocated to Singapore to pursue a Bachelor of Arts (First Class Honours) in Performing Arts (Dance) at LASALLE College of the Arts. In 2008, she joined The Human Expression (T.H.E) Dance Company as one of its pioneering full-time members, touring extensively across Asia and Europe. As a choreographer, she has created works for T.H.E Main Company, T.H.E Second Company, and several local universities and colleges. Her full-length work, Incandescent – A City that Never Sleeps, performed by NUS Dance Synergy, was awarded Production of the Year at the Tan Ean Kiam Arts Awards in 2022.

Since then, Ileto has established herself as a professional freelance dance artist, choreographer, instructor, artistic director, and international jury member. Her works have been showcased at notable events, including the M1 CONTACT Contemporary Dance Festival, M1 Fringe Festival, and the Joint Dance Congress in Adelaide, Australia.

In recognition of her contributions to the arts, she was conferred the Young Artist Award—Singapore’s highest honour for young artists—by the National Arts Council in 2017. She later pursued further studies, earning a Master’s Degree in Arts Pedagogy and Practice with Distinction from Goldsmiths, University of London, in 2020.

Currently, Yarra Ileto serves as a Programme Lead for the BA in Performance Making under the School of Interdisciplinary Practices at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts, University of the Arts Singapore.

These levels serve as a guide to help you find the best fit for your journey. They are not intended as barriers for those hungry to learn; however, we highly encourage all participants to honestly assess their physical readiness and movement foundation before signing up to ensure the best experience for themselves and the group.

Beginner

Recommended experience level: min. 6 months in movement-based classes.

Expectation: Sessions move at an accessible pace, focusing on fundamental patterns, coordination, and learning new sequences.

Intermediate

Recommended experience level: min. 1 year consistent experience in dance or movement training.

Expectation: Physical stamina and mental agility. Expect more intricate phrase work, quicker pickups, and a deeper dive into the specific aesthetic and “groove” of the artist.

Advanced

Recommended experience level: High-level training; suitable for semi-professional and professional movers or participants with min. 2 years of experience in dance training.

Expectation: Artistic nuance and complexity. These workshops move at a professional pace, challenging participants with sophisticated material, performance-level energy, and advanced spatial awareness.

Open

Recommended experience level: Understanding of basic dance principles and a willingness to explore.

Expectation: Creative research and improvisation. These sessions are 100% process-based, prioritising individual discovery, spontaneity, and the artist’s unique creative methodology over set choreography.

Terms of Ticket Sales

1. Prices exclude the ticketing agent's booking fees.
2. Once sold, tickets are strictly non-refundable or exchangeable unless the Singapore government mandates the closure of events in Singapore. 3. All ticket purchases are processed through BookMyShow. In the event that a refund request is required, attendees must contact BookMyShow directly in accordance with their ticketing and refund policies.

Conditions of Entry

1. Admission is subject to valid tickets produced at the entrance.
2. Each ticket admits one attendee.
3. Rating to be advised. Attendees must be at least 16 years old for admission.

1. In the interest of all patrons, latecomers may not be admitted until a suitable point in the workshop.
2. Mobile phones must be switched off or set to silent mode during the workshop.
3. Attendees are required to follow all house rules and regulations set out by the venue. The house rules are displayed within the venue premises.
4. No food or sweet drinks are allowed in the venue.

Photography / Videography Recording Rules

1. Photography, videography, and audio recording are not permitted during the workshop.
