Cathartic Mapping — Class by Brandon Alley

This improvisation-based class opens with brain-body coordination and breath work to calm the nervous system and release tension. Participants then explore natural impulses through imagery, yielding, pushing, and opposition, expanding movement and breath. Isolated patterns, distorted facial expressions, and group locomotion will guide participants through texture, memory, and presence, culminating in an emotional release through contradiction and over-saturation. The class will end in a collective moment of relaxation, inviting a centred spirit.

About the Artist:

North Carolina-born Brandon Lee Alley is a multidisciplinary artist based on Coast Salish territories in Vancouver. His dance career includes Hubbard Street 2, one year with BODYTRAFFIC in LA, and five seasons with Ballet BC (2015-2020). He continued performing and collaborating with Vancouver-based Company 605, Idan Cohen, and Rachel Meyer before joining Kidd Pivot for Revisor's final global tour in 2022. In 2019, he co-founded Dance//Novella, a contemporary dance company in Vancouver. Brandon is also an Audio Engineer who creates original dance scores.
